Again, my favorite part of the day is the teaching demo and then the discussion. No matter for what level the teaching demo is geared, I seem to think of a slew of ways to use it in my classroom. Thanks, Mindy. I am feeling a little overwhelmed with the readings, discussions, and the revisions of my paper. I know I have never been taught to revise and now that I am doing it, I can't seem to stop. Maybe I just need to sleep!!

Yes, Marlene, it can feel overwhelming. I definitely felt that way yesterday. I agree that it is rare to be taught to REVISE not EDIT. I really want to stress this in my class this year. I want to incorporate the low stakes writing and create a safe place for kids to share, and work up to a higher stakes writing assignment. Sleep would also be nice:)

I agree! Mindy's lesson reminded me how important reading a book to the class to start off the less can be. The discussion was and is always filled with rich suggestions and ideas. We are all going to have a brand new bag of tricks to use this year. Look out Kids!!

I also feel like this is one of the first papers I have really "revised". Sure, I have added a bit here or there, moved around a couple of sentences, and maybe used the thesaurus on papers before, but the total reorganization, heading in a different direction, and coming up with a totally redone (and much better) piece really taught me what editing is all about. I think we hit the nail on the head in today's discussion about not really being taught how to do that in high school.

I'm there with you! I am feeling totally overwhelmed with all that is going on right now. I'm hoping to get things under control this weekend. Happy 4th!
